Spaces For Paintings In Cheltenham 2009, series of two-colour Riso prints on paper, 26cm x 36cm
After visiting the lovely spa town of Cheltenham, Harry Blackett and Bernat Daviu felt the need to pay homage to this wonder with a series called: Artists' Impressions Of Spaces for Paintings in Cheltenham.
The prints presented for the Open West are a selection of artists’ impressions of sites in Cheltenham (public and private) where paintings are normally hung; however, the artworks are absent, leaving only the spaces or scenes.
A series of found texts take the place of the paintings and animate the surrounding space. Rather than focusing on a painting’s surface these prints draw on the physical and atmospheric qualities of a paintings’ surrounding space. Simultaneously our works flip-flop between being ‘artists’ impressions’ or plans, and art pieces with the potential to enter the very spaces they depict.
